Fibrolytic

Hemicellulase

A group of enzymes that hydrolyze hemicellulose, a complex plant cell wall polysaccharide composed of xylans, mannans, and glucuronoxylans. By breaking β-1,4 linkages in these polymers, hemicellulase helps reduce plant structural complexity, allowing for greater accessibility of associated carbohydrates and micronutrients.*

BIOCHEMICAL ROLE IN DIGESTION

Hemicellulase targets the heterogeneous hemicellulose polymers present in plant cell walls, cleaving them into component sugars such as xylose, mannose, and arabinose. Unlike cellulose, hemicellulose exhibits significant structural diversity, and its digestion often resists normal enzymatic action. Hemicellulase activity works synergistically with cellulases to dismantle plant structural barriers, improving the overall accessibility of both macronutrients and micronutrients enclosed within fibrous matrices of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and cereals.*

NUTRITIONAL RELEVANCE IN SUPPLEMENTATION

Supplemental hemicellulase supports better digestion of plant-rich meals by reducing gastrointestinal bulk and mitigating gas production associated with undigested hemicellulose. Its action increases the efficiency of fiber degradation, enhancing nutrient release and promoting intestinal comfort. For individuals with sensitivity to legumes or whole grains, hemicellulase supplementation helps improve dietary tolerance, making fiber-rich foods more manageable while contributing to a more balanced digestive process.*
